The descriptions of my works have strange quotation marks. What can be done to avoid this in future? What can be done to correct the past?

From your description it's hard to troubleshoot. Do you have example url(s) for your items? But I'm guessing this could be related to your problem:

You could also leave an error report on each one (from the lower left area of the items' details pages, click "report errors") describing the problem, for a possible fix.
